Ubeyy is the UAE's first Shariah-compliant auto credit card, letting drivers pay for insurance, down payments, tolls, and servicing in 0% interest instalments. We built the WhatsApp messaging engine - real-time, automated, and deeply integrated - to meet customers where they already are.
The UAE has one of the highest WhatsApp penetration rates in the world - over 90% of smartphone users rely on it as their primary communication channel. For a financial product targeting everyday drivers, defaulting to email or SMS for transactional notifications meant messages were missed, trust was eroded, and the user experience felt disconnected from people's actual digital habits.
Ubeyy's auto credit card operates across a complex set of touch points: insurance payment approvals, toll charge summaries, down payment disbursements, instalment reminders, and Shariah compliance confirmations. Each of these needed to reach users instantly, in a format they trust, with context-rich content - not a generic push notification.
Brainspack was brought in to design and build a WhatsApp messaging layer that could handle the full lifecycle of customer communication: from onboarding confirmations and OTP verification to real-time transaction alerts and smart repayment nudges - all within WhatsApp Business API.
Managing Meta-approved WhatsApp templates for alerts, OTPs, and payment reminders.
Delivering instant payment and transaction alerts with low-latency infrastructure.
Creating Islamic finance-compliant WhatsApp communication without Riba-related terms.
Handling bilingual WhatsApp messaging with RTL Arabic formatting support.
Managing user consent, opt-ins, and real-time opt-out compliance for WhatsApp messaging.
Building automated routing for payment queries, disputes, and instalment requests.
Brainspack architected the WhatsApp messaging system as three integrated layers: a Trigger Layer to capture and queue financial events, a Template Engine to compose Shariah-appropriate, bilingual messages, and a Delivery Layer to dispatch, track, and handle responses through WhatsApp Business API.
Financial events - toll charges, insurance debits, instalment dues, OTP requests - are published to an AWS SQS queue the instant they occur. A Lambda consumer picks each event, enriches it with user context, and dispatches the appropriate WhatsApp template within seconds.
A structured library of Meta-approved WhatsApp message templates covering 14 notification types in both English and Arabic. Templates use dynamic variables for amounts, dates, and card details, with right-to-left formatting validated across device types.
A content validation layer ensures all message copy uses Islamic finance-appropriate language. Terms like "profit rate" and "deferred payment" are used in place of interest-bearing equivalents, with every template reviewed against Murabaha contract standards.
A stateful webhook handler processes user replies and routes balance checks, payment disputes, and opt-out requests to the appropriate service in real time.
A PostgreSQL-based consent system manages user opt-ins and opt-outs in real time, ensuring compliant message delivery across all WhatsApp queues.
A React.js admin dashboard provides real-time visibility into message delivery, failed dispatches, opt-out trends, and WhatsApp template performance.
Built intelligent workflows to automate repetitive processes.
Built a cloud-based system capable of handling large-scale operations.
Implemented dashboards to provide instant business insights.
Designed intuitive interfaces for seamless user interaction.

The platform delivered measurable business impact through high-speed WhatsApp communication, reliable transactional messaging, bilingual customer engagement, and scalable fintech-grade infrastructure tailored for the UAE market.
Users receive real-time WhatsApp confirmations for every transaction - tolls, insurance, instalments - the moment it happens, eliminating uncertainty and building confidence in the platform.
The inbound reply engine resolves the most common queries - balance checks, instalment schedules, payment confirmations - entirely within WhatsApp, reducing load on the support team.
Full TDRA-compliant opt-in flows and Shariah-appropriate language in every template meant Ubeyy launched with zero compliance flags from regulators or Islamic finance oversight bodies.
The SQS-Lambda architecture was load-tested to handle 10,000 concurrent message dispatches - ready for Ubeyy's user growth without infrastructure changes.
Personalised and interactive WhatsApp communication increased customer response rates and improved overall user engagement with the platform.
The only WhatsApp messaging layer in UAE auto finance to use Islamic finance terminology throughout - reviewed and validated by Ubeyy's Shariah compliance team for every template.
The SQS-Lambda architecture ensures users receive their WhatsApp notification within two seconds of any financial transaction - not minutes, not hours.
Full bidirectional text support in both outbound templates and inbound reply parsing, ensuring Arabic-speaking users receive perfectly formatted messages on any device.
Users can query their account, check instalment schedules, or escalate a dispute entirely within WhatsApp - no app switch required. The reply engine handles it all automatically.
Per-user, per-message-type opt-in state ensures marketing messages never reach users who opted out, while critical transactional notifications are always delivered as required by regulation.
A full dashboard gives the Ubeyy team complete visibility and control - delivery analytics, failed message queues, opt-out tracking, and template performance - without engineering support.

Ubeyy is the UAE's first Islamic auto credit card, offering 0% interest instalments on car insurance, down payments, toll charges, and vehicle servicing. The WhatsApp messaging feature solved the core customer communication problem: in a market where over 90% of users rely on WhatsApp as their primary communication channel, Ubeyy needed to deliver real-time, trustworthy transaction notifications and reminders natively within WhatsApp - not email or SMS.
The UAE has one of the world's highest WhatsApp adoption rates. For Ubeyy's target audience of UAE drivers, WhatsApp is where they communicate with family, businesses, and services daily. Push notifications require app installation and permission grants that reduce reach. SMS lacks rich formatting and is widely associated with spam. WhatsApp delivered higher open rates, richer message formatting, and crucially, two-way communication - letting users query their account balance or instalment schedule by simply replying.
Every message template was designed in collaboration with Ubeyy's Shariah compliance team. Terminology was carefully chosen to reflect Islamic finance principles - "deferred payment" and "profit rate" replace interest-bearing equivalents, and instalment confirmations reference the underlying Murabaha contract structure. A content review layer was built into the template management workflow to ensure future templates also pass compliance before submission to Meta.
The messaging engine is built on a Node.js backend with AWS SQS for event queuing and AWS Lambda for message dispatch. Twilio handles the WhatsApp Business API connection, managing outbound template sends, delivery webhooks, and inbound message routing. Redis stores session state for conversational flows. PostgreSQL manages user consent and message logs. The admin dashboard is built in React.js and deployed via Docker on AWS.
When a user replies to any Ubeyy WhatsApp message, a Twilio webhook delivers the message payload to the Node.js API. A keyword detection engine classifies the intent - balance query, instalment schedule, dispute, opt-out - and routes it accordingly. Balance and schedule queries return automated responses populated from the financial database in real time. Dispute and support keywords create a CRM ticket and send an acknowledgement. Opt-out keywords update the consent state immediately via Redis.
Yes.
